Conducting feasibility studies for the implementation of pilot electric mobility projects in Tunisia

Context & objectives:

The National Agency for Energy Management (ANME) and the Ministry of Environment have designed a project aimed at accelerating the adoption of electric mobility in Tunisia. This initiative has received approval from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) for a grant of 2 million USD. As part of the global program supporting countries in the transition to electric mobility, the project will be jointly managed by UNIDO and ANME.Main Objectives:Conduct feasibility studies for four pilot electric mobility initiatives in the municipalities of Bizerte, Sfax, and Djerba.Prepare tender dossiers for the procurement of equipment and oversee its commissioning.

Main achievements & impacts
    • Conduct a detailed technical and financial feasibility analysis of the pilot projects in Bizerte, Sfax, and Djerba. This includes recommending options for project locations and proposing scalable deployment models (financial models, financing mechanisms, project management options, etc.). The feasibility study covers both electric vehicles and the corresponding charging infrastructure, primarily powered by solar energy. The analysis also integrates measures to strengthen gender equality and promote women’s empowerment within the pilot projects.
    • Develop technical specifications and tender documents for the procurement of electric vehicles as part of the pilot projects.
    • Develop technical specifications and tender documents for the installation of charging infrastructures.
    • Prepare tender documents for the establishment of an electric-assisted bicycle rental service.
