Regional Tour – Electric Mobility: Tunisia gets moving!
A field mission to accelerate energy transition
Matine Consulting’s team has just concluded an inspiring tour through the governorates of Bizerte, Sfax, and Djerba, within the framework of the project we are conducting for the National Agency for Energy Management (ANME).
The objective of this mission was to study the feasibility of pilot projects aimed at accelerating the deployment of electric mobility in Tunisia, based on a participatory and inclusive approach
A collaborative approach with local actors
From Bizerte to Djerba, passing through Sfax, our consultants conducted in-depth exchanges with all local stakeholders:
- Municipal representatives to understand municipal challenges
- Local taxi owner chambers to assess sector needs
- Key soft mobility actors to identify development opportunities

Four strategic axes identified
These meetings enabled co-construction of realistic and ambitious solutions, structured around four priority axes:
- Municipal vehicle electrification Support municipalities in transitioning their fleet to electric vehicles to set an example and reduce their carbon footprint.
- Electric taxi acquisition facilitation Develop financing and support mechanisms to enable taxi professionals easier access to electric vehicles.
- Public charging infrastructure deployment Plan and implement a network of charging stations accessible to the general public to remove barriers to electric vehicle adoption.
- Electric-assisted bicycle rental service Implement complementary soft mobility solutions to meet urban and tourist transportation needs.
Promising results
This field immersion provided:
- A detailed diagnosis of local needs in each region visited
- A clear understanding of regional specificities and local constraints
- A shared momentum among local stakeholders for an inclusive energy transition
